Members Corner – Situational Awareness

By: Advisory Board Member George Mainwaring

Situational Awareness is a concept that has been around for many years, in Aviation, Military, Law Enforcement and Healthcare to name a few.  Wikipedia describes it as, the perception of environmental elements and events with respect to time or space, the comprehension of their meaning, and the projection of their future status.   Basically, knowing what’s going on around you and recognizing situations for what they are or have the potential to become.  Especially in today’s environment it is imperative that we are aware of our surroundings and understanding that conditions can change in the blink of an eye.

Colonel Jeff Cooper, founder of Gunsite Academy, developed Cooper’s Color Code.  Which breaks down to paying attention to your surroundings, otherwise known as Situational Awareness.

1.       Condition White-Total Unawareness.

2.       Condition Yellow-a relaxed awareness, the optimal everyday state of being.

3.       Condition Orange-a specific alert has triggered your full attention.  If you haven’t done it yet, thinking through your plan of defense or getaway happens here.

4.       Condition Red-ready to defend your life.

It is essential that we as Self-Protectors are always aware of the goings on around us.  Not paranoid, but aware.  How many situations can we avoid just by paying attention and being in the now?  If we are aware and notice a situation developing, then possibly we have a means to de-escalate that situation or remove ourselves and loved ones to safe area and notify Law Enforcement, if need be.  There is so much more on this topic, and I am by no means an authority on the subject, but it would be a great benefit to learn a little more and implement it in your daily routines.   If you have a chance take Instructors Shane’s CCW course through Defensive Firearms and Tactics his seminar on this subject is unsurpassed and eye-opening.

Inland Empire Gun Owners Proudly Endorses These Great Candidates!

Throwback BLOG: The Horror of Gun Control

By Joe Drammissi

Horror-of-Gun-Control-e1621217716174

This article addresses a very disturbing video that illustrates the horror of gun control. The video is an example of how dangerous laws and ignorant attitudes impact real people. To be clear, gun control laws are not intended to increase public safety or to impede criminals. Gun control laws are about power and control. Gun control laws are about exercising power over and control of law-abiding citizens.

The video can be seen here on John Correia’s Active Self Protection (ASP) channel. For those not familiar with ASP, the channel posts actual crime videos and analysis creating some of the best concealed carry and personal defense related information available online.

Sexual Awareness Month IEGO

Become a #NotMeIE Ambassador

NOTME_IE_logo_black

The #NotMeIE program is a mentor/mentee referral service run by women for women to help them:
  • Obtain firearms training
  • Get assistance in choosing and purchasing a firearm
  • Obtain a CCW
How does the program work?
A potential client can fill out the application for service on our website. Once received, the project manager reviews the application and assigns the client to an Ambassador. An Ambassador then contacts the client to begin the process of walking them through whatever their firearm needs are. After the client has been successfully helped, their case is closed, and the Ambassador is given a new client to work with. Some of our Ambassadors are also NRA certified trainers. They are very knowledgeable in all aspects of firearms training and purchasing. IEGO also offers an online CCW seminar once a month. Check the IEGO website for upcoming dates. If you are an experienced gun owner and are interested in becoming an Ambassador for the #NotMeIE program please reach out to Karla at [email protected]
